The limbic system

The limbic system is a part of the brain that contains the amygdala, hypothalamus, and hippocampus and limbic cortex. They are found on top of the brainstem, around the brain ventricles. This system as a whole is responsible for our feelings of fear and anger and pleasure, and other emotions needed to ensure survival including sexual pleasure and memory. The cerebral cortex lies above these structures.
